Five Tips In Lowering Blood Sugar

Lowering blood sugar is one of the most important goals in the maintenance procedures of diabetes patients. Diabetes patients have to be thankful though since there are many natural ways of lowering sugar levels. One of the highly recommended ways is regular exercise, especially before eating, as exercise is proven to regulate blood sugar levels in the same way as two common glucose-lowering drugs. This is potentially great news for people who enjoy exercising and don’t like taking drugs.

1. In exercising, researchers suggest to do it on a downhill rather than uphill location. Although both produce substantial health benefits, exercising downhill has now been proven superior for lowering blood sugar levels. Uphill exercise like a cardiovascular workout lowers triglycerides.

2. A person who wants treatment for Diabetics should take in food that lower blood sugar levels. One recommended food as per scientific research is the rice bran. Rice bran was able to lower the blood glucose by of a small group of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes by up to 30%. Researchers report that one out of four diabetics who took part in the 57-subject study was able to reduce his daily injection of insulin or medication dosage after adding stabilized rice bran to his diet for just two months.

Researchers found that patients, with elevated cholesterol, and who consumed 20 grams per day of stabilized rice bran lowered their total serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels between 5% and 15%.

3. Studies also recommend one natural remedy that is proving to be an excellent alternative-- that is Momordica charantia or bitter melon. It has been found to be just as effective as a prescription-only drug called glibenclamide at reducing blood sugar levels and without causing any adverse effects. The extract from the unripe fruit of the plant has long been used as a medicine by Ayurvedic (ancient Indian) practitioners to treat many conditions, including diabetes, viral infections and even cancer.

4. Diabetes patients wanting to lower blood sugar level may also try other herbal treatment like standard artichoke because of its hypoglycemic properties. Another is Toursi, a Greek appetizer that consist of cabbage, cauliflower, and carrot. A small serving of this dish is said to be useful in lowering blood glucose. Herbs and leaves such as Rocket, Fennel and Basil also have hypoglycemic qualities and are great to put in salads or eaten alone. Onion also has the same quality.

5. Vanadium has long been a recommended treatment to lower blood sugar. In animals, it's been shown to help cells take up glucose in lab studies with rats, high doses of vanadium (thousands of times greater than the amount thought necessary for good health) have brought down elevated blood sugar. Small human studies using more reasonable doses have shown promising effects as well. For example, research at Harvard's Joslin Diabetes Center found that vanadium improves insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes and lowers cholesterol as well. Does it bring down blood sugar numbers? That's what happened in a study at Temple University in Philadelphia in which people with type 2 diabetes took vanadyl sulfate, one form of vanadium, for three weeks.

Lowering blood sugar can be a challenging task for people who have no choice but to do so. However, achieving such feat is really all about self-discipline and determination.
