Look For A Remedy For Diabetes? Discover 5 You Should Know About.

There are many recommended natural remedies for diabetes. Here are the top five remedies that are believed to be effective alternatives for treating diabetes. Although there might be studies that show positive results, people are advised to consult their physicians before starting with any alternative treatment.

Those with type 2 diabetes are warned to continuously monitor their blood sugar levels regularly even while taking natural remedies. While these remedies have been proven effective, it is still a good idea to refer all medications, natural and otherwise, to your doctor to avoid complications or damage to your health.

1. Alpha-Lipoic Acid

Some diabetes research shows that alpha lipoic acid or ALA is a natural remedy for type 2 diabetes. It has been found to increase the body’s response to insulin and improve weight loss too. However, patients with diabetes are also advised against too much intake of ALA since it can lead to excessive lowering of blood sugar levels. Aside from this, ALA when used in excessive amounts can lower certain minerals in the blood like iron. It can also interact with other medicines and it can lessen the effectiveness of certain drugs for cancer. People who are taking ALA may also experience side effects like skin rashes, upset stomach and headaches. It is important to take note that experts still need to conduct further research on the effectiveness of ALA for people with diabetes.

2. Chromium

Chromium is a metal and a mineral found in fish, meat, fat, brown sugar, tea, coffee, whole wheat bread, yeast and some spices. It can also be found in supplements known as chromium picolinate, chromium chloride, or chromium nicotinate. Diabetes testing shows that although chromium is effective in lowering blood sugar, people who take it can experience headaches, weight gain, insomnia, skin irritation and mood swings. It can also have adverse effects when taken in high doses. This includes diarrhea, vomiting, worsening of psychiatric problems and development of kidney problems. Thus, it is very important to use it only at the right levels or dosage.

3. Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is an energy giving substance and an anti-oxidant. It is found in meat and seafood and is also being marketed in tablet and capsule forms. Although it has been found to control glucose levels in the blood, not enough diabetes testing has been done to conclude of its effectiveness and safety. Side effects from taking COQ10 include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, heartburn and loss of appetite. People with diabetes are advised to consult their doctors before taking this natural remedy.

4. Garlic

Some studies on type 2 diabetes nutrition suggest that garlic have a positive effect for people with type 2 diabetes. However, there is not enough diabetes research that has been done to claim that it is a direct remedy for diabetes.

5. Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral found in nuts, seeds, whole grains and green, leafy vegetables. Magnesium in tablets, capsule, and liquid forms are also available in drugstores. According to diabetes research, people with diabetes have been found to have low levels of magnesium in the body. Magnesium is also known to aid the heart, nerves, muscles, and bones in the body. However, health experts still need to conduct further experiments on whether magnesium can be an alternative cure for type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, when taken in high doses, this can result to nausea, diarrhea, weakness, difficulty in breathing, loss of appetite, heart palpitations and extremely low blood pressure. It may also have a negative interaction with other drugs and antibiotics.

There are various remedies for the treatment of diabetes but not all of them will work the same for all people. Diabetics are thus cautioned from taking them in without permission or advice from their health advisers.
